One down...

One to go! Yesterday, I finished my first teaching placement. This means that in only 8 weeks I am officially, finally done for good!

I realize that I've hardly posted in the last couple of months, but I've been pretty busy between teaching and musical directing. Thankfully placement one has ended, and the show is this weekend. That means, starting Monday I can focus solely on getting my butt kicked at Williamsville East High!

My last 8 weeks have been spent at an elementary in Lockport. The teacher that I worked with was very nice, though our teaching styles didn't necessarily align. I still was able to learn a ton from her (especially in the area of classroom management) and had some great experiences. The kids were so cute when I would say goodbye to them...some were really sad! I also got some great recommendations out of the whole process, so that is definitely a plus!

Last night I went to Williamsville (my next school) for their spring choral concert. Lets just say that I was excited about this school before, and now I'm absolutely terrified! Even the lowest choirs sound amazing. Their chorale, their top auditioned choir though was beyond amazing. They sang this incredibly difficult Samuel Barber piece and "O Fortuna," from Carmina Burana! For those of you who don't know that piece, here's a video of another choir performing it. Williamsville used 2 pianos and percussion instead of an orchestra, but wow, they were amazing. I really was shocked that they were high schoolers up there. Let me say again that I'm quite nervous about this placement!

I have today off, so I'm going to be heading to Buffalo to have lunch w/my voice teacher, then back to Starpoint to get ready for the show tonight. I hope the show goes alright! We have cut a lot of things that I would rather we hadn't cut, but the director wanted to, and since she's the director, what she says goes! There are still some songs that the kids are having trouble with and I would have liked to just sit and run through everything with them one last time, but there just isn't time for that. Oh well...I'm sure everything will turn out. It always does!

I suppose that's all for now! I need to go make some practice cd's for my choir now for the Easter music, as they are never going to learn it if I don't!
